I’ve always wondered about the BIG questions in Life — Why are we here? What are we to do during the time we have here? Where did Mom, Dad, Grandparents go after they left this green Earth? What’s the best way to live?

I was raised in an idyllic childhood on the beach in Malibu — with the Ocean in my back yard! But all that soon changed.

My Dad died when I was 16. (Dad’s music, Dawn’s story: You Can Do ANYTHING!)

At that time I could have gotten into bad things. But I decided to go up, to go into good!

My Grandma, Dad’s mom, was a Christian Scientist. She told me that God is Love. So I strive to find the good, the Love in Life.

Have I always succeeded? No. But I can only imagine my Life if I hadn’t bothered to try! (See post: Imperfect Perfectionist.)

I’ve always kept a Journal. It’s how I remain sane. My Journal is my constant in an ever-changing Life. It’s how I work out the BIG questions, and the small; how I navigate the Journey that Life musingly tosses before me. (See post: Why Journal?)*

I figure I’ll share that Journal, that Journey, with you!

Who is Dawn?

Dawn Jenkins, Lady Farrier

Farrier (Horseshoer), Horsewoman, Entrepreneur, Photographer, Writer, Pilot.

Before Dawn was 20 she: set out alone for 10 days on her horse, Rebel, into the wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest (outside Santa Barbara); worked as horse wrangler/trail guide for the UCSB Recreation Department; moved to Enumclaw Washington; built an 18′ Sioux Indian Tipi; lived in her tipi in a cow pasture; and worked on a Dairy Farm — in the milking parlor, milking cows — taking care of “the Girls” (all 120 of them!).

In her 20’s Dawn: jumped out of a perfectly good airplane; got her Private Pilot license; started her own fashion business; flew 300 flight hours throughout Southern California; worked as freelance business/Life Coach/consultant in Silicon Valley; and bought her yearling Appaloosa/Running Quarter/Thoroughbred/Arab mare, Fanta, the foundation of her four generations of endurance and carriage horses.

Now she: rides and loves her four (Fanta-descendant) horses; trims and shoes horses in Southern California; and has completed 14 years of flying to Hawaii every 6 weeks to trim and shoe horses in Paradise! Yahoo!

Please check out Little Yellow Door, the inspiration for my blog, by my daughter, Ellaharp. (And listen to her music.)

“Working on this project through the build year, I got so bogged down in the process that I think I almost forgot that when it was done it would be my home. Every time I drive in and see the tiny little A frame smiling at me with its tiny little porch light I get all proud and fuzzy.

I watched Ella build and blog Little Yellow, her Tumbleweed Tiny House on Wheels. (Frankly, given our family’s aversion to computers and technology, I was more surprised at her ability to BLOG than to BUILD her own Tiny Home — and determined to to start a blog (two!) of my own : ~ ))
